Satya Paul presented the Autumn Winter 2014 collection ‘Icarus’ for Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week AW’14. A lighthearted take on print and its engagement with the garment, the collection explores various paradigms of illusion and its forms.
Concept
The concept of deception has been integrated to fuse body movement with clever use of interactive prints. Visual ironies and exaggerated motifs have been employed to trick the viewer and create an element of wonder.
‘Icarus’ is an effort to revel in the cheerful, suggest the alternative and slightly alter the envelope.
Silhouettes
The Saree retains its place as the core offering. The unstitched classic is paired with woolen petticoats and vintage-inspired polo neck blouses while pre-stitched versions take cue from the season’s sports luxe trend. Day separates like shift dresses and shirts are paired with effortless outerwear; winter capes, jumpers and tunics. This season’s innovation is the reversible Saree; which has a different print on each side to suit the wearer’s mood.
Prints
Body movement has been complemented with the eclectic use of seams and fastenings. The key print story renders activity; like a running tap dripping water, water being poured into a glass and simultaneously the blooming of a plant. Motifs are digitally engineered onto separates and further highlighted through patchwork or partial embellishments.
Fabrics
The fabrics range from slinky silks to jersey, crepe and wool.
Colors
The palette is fresh but dense. Combinations of toffee brown, lilac, crimson, nude, mint and soft pink are color blocked with metallic accents. Deep burgundy has been used extensively through the collection as a rich undertone.
Accessories
The collection includes scarves, stoles, bags and clutches. Cutesy haversacks, vanity cases and hold-alls have been developed for ensuring utility.
