Christie’s unveiled 83 works of art in its first sale in
India with a dazzling cocktail reception in Mumbai with hundreds of guests and
collectors arriving at The Taj Mahal Palace.
Steven Murphy, CEO Christie’s welcomed the guests to this dazzling
evening and thanked Raj Sehgal from Credit Suisse for its long standing
partnership.
On display was the best of Indian art to come to the market,
including nine works defined as the National Art Treasures. This section is led
by Amrita Sher-Gil’s work Untitled (Hungarian village church) painted in 1932,
one of the rare paintings by the artist to come to auction. The sale is
highlighted by the estate of Kekoo and Korshed Gandhy, the leading figures of
the Indian art scene in the 1960-1990s.
Christie’s was delighted to count amongst its guests Bose
Krishnamachari, Anju Dodiya and Atul Dodiya, Suhel Seth, Neha Choksi, Harsh
Goenka, Riyas Komu, Ashwani Kakkar, Chetan and Roohi Jaikrishan, Princess
Francoise Sturdza, Anju Taraporewala, Ashvin Gidwani, Bijay Anand, Bikram
Saluja, Tara Lal, Devaunshi Mehta, Krishna Mehta, Pheroza Godrej, Raell
Padamsee, Vikram Baidyanath and Parul Vadehra name a few.
