The British High Commissioner, His Excellency Sir James
Bevan and Lady Bevan hosted ‘Tamana Winter Carnival 2013’ at their residence,
2, Rajaji Marg, New Delhi on Wednesday 18th December 2013. The association
between Britain and Tamana is very old. The first branch of Tamana- Tamana
Special School was inaugurated by the Late Lady Diana the Princess of Wales and
the foundation stone was laid down by the then High Commissioner of Britain,
Sir David Goodall. This is the eighth consecutive year that the carnival in
being held at the High Commissioner’s residence. The British High Commission
has time and again provided support for different project of Tamana.
The carnival was inaugurated by the High’s Commissioner’s
wife-Lady Bevan, Shahnaz Hussain, Mr Pradeep Bahari (Regional Manager Rolls
Royce), Dr. Shayama Chona (President Tamana). The students of Tamana, Tamana
Kindergarten and Tamana Chona (founder’s daughter) had put up scintillating dance
and song performances at the inaugural ceremony.
This year’s Carnival saw Tamana students creating magic with
their hands, be it the beautifully designed envelopes, key chains, decorative,
cards, etc or deliciously cooked bakery products or pickles. The carnival saw
participation of over 150 vendors and NGOs exhibiting and selling Haute
Couture, Jewellery, Home Décor Accessories and home furnishings, Christmas
Gifts, Studio Pottery and other high end products. The food court had
participation from renowned restaurants of Delhi.
Tamana, a non-profit voluntary association was created
solely for the purpose of providing the best professional help to children and
adults with developmental and multiple disabilities and autism, providing a
holistic developmental education to children with special needs, to effect
optimum adult habilitation.
Tamana looks towards people from different walks of life to
come forward and support the cause.
People can support by working as volunteers, by sponsoring a child or by
donating for various projects that are in the pipe-line but have not been
complete due to shortage of funds. People can come and visit our school and
then decide for themselves.
“We organize the annual Winter Carnival for showcasing the
products developed by the special needs students and for providing a platform
to market them. With this annual event, we also aim at creating awareness about
the disabled and promoting social integration of the disabled and mobilize the
society to take part in events hosted for the disabled”, said Dr. Shayama
Chona, Founder, Tamana.
