Assamese musician wins Best Music Award at NIFF 2014

Bangalore based Assamese music composer and singer Jim Ankan Deka wins Best Music Award at the recently concluded Noida International Film Festival 2014 for his Hindi-Assamesel music video 'Awaaz - Speak Up Against Sexual Violence'. The video also wins the Best Music Video award at the festival.

Aawaz was originally composed by Jim for a rally in Bangalore in December, 2012 following the death of the 'Delhi gang rape' victim. The lyrics of the song are penned together by Jim and another Bangalore based vocalist Ritwika Bhattacharya. 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa L'il Champs' (2009) finalist Antara Nandy from Kolkata has rendered her vocals along with Ritwika and Queen Hazarika, a singer from Assam.

The video of the song is directed by Parmita Borah. The video includes three short stories dealing with violence against single as well as married women and child abuse. Parmita Borah along with Antara Baruah and child artist Rachel Rose Oommen acted in the video.


The video was released on July, 2012 and the song was released as a single worldwide through iTunes, Amazon, OK Listen and other online stores. So far Aawaz has received four awards in three film festivals including Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival - 2013 and Hollywood Shorts Reel-14 in the categories Best Music and Best Music Video.
