The capital witnessed a unique Fashion show by American
Embassy School students for women empowerment cause to raise funds for
underprivileged women towards their education and vocational training.
This year the event was organised at the residence of Dutch
Ambassador Alphonsus Stoelinga, who endorsed the event saying that India was
the next global fashion destination.
The kids designed the
garments, got them tailored and put the entire show together on their own. Four
senior students conceived the project last year in collaboration with the New
Delhi Hub of World Economic Forum's Global Shapers Community.
The main aim of fashion show was to raise funds for charity arranged by a non-governmental
organization 'Work and Shelter', which is involved in supporting poor young
women after the brutal gang-rape of a 23-year-old physiotherapist student in
Delhi on December 16, 2012.
This project was setup to achieve a task to not only
advocate for change, but also to play an active role in creating it. The financial
assistance such an event could generate for WORK + SHELTER and women in need
would be immediate and enduring.
The event was attended by several celebrities including
Actress Pallavi Sharda, Fashion Designer
Pawan Sachdeva, Entrepreneur Shalini Chauhan, Latika Kohli, Paul Chmelik,
School Director, American Embassy School,
etc., who praised the efforts of the students.
