Master natural hair stylist and recent recipient of the
“Nzuri 100 Carat Diamond Award”, Isis Brantley, will be guest speaker at the
Black History Month Benefits fashion show on February 23, 2014 in Houston
Texas. Hosted by EZCall EZTalk, the
event will be held at the Wyndham Hotel, Houston. Brantley has been a
practitioner of natural hair care in the African-American community for over 30
years. She is also the brainchild of the annual Naturally Isis Hair Parade and
Festival with celebrity songstress Erykah Badu as the Grand Marshall.
As an iconic adorner and educator in the beauty industry,
Isis has maintained a presence in her community. She has also been actively
involved in preserving cultural identity for African Americans via her decade
long battle with the State of Texas regarding anti-braiding regulations. Isis was ‘grandfathered’ in 2007 by the
State of Texas and received the prestigious noted honor of being the first
natural hair care expert in Texas.
A Dallas native and mother of five, Isis Brantley is known
nationwide as Naturally Isis, the guru of Natural Hair Care. Stylist to many
clients across the country including celebrity neo soul artist Erykah Badu,
Isis is deeply involved in building and expanding her business, with the
promotion of her hair care products appropriately donned, Sisters of Isis, and
the upcoming release of three books: Hair Once Sacred, Now Desecrated, Braid
Raid, and Olayinka’s Magic Beaded Comb.
The Black History Month fashion show will feature designs by
fashion designer Philetta K. Phillips who will debut her 2014 African inspired
clothing Line "The Cross Over" incorporating designs ranging from
elaborate evening gowns to fun casual wear. For a taste of bridal couture,
TeKay Designs: Queen Of The Brides will also showcase select bridal gowns
representing queens and women of power from various countries around the world.
Music will be provided by a DJ and cultural dancers will entertain guests at
the event. Doors open at 6:30 pm CT. Regular admission is $25 and Patron
admission is $50. Thirty percent of proceeds from the event will be distributed
among The Liberian Association of Greater Houston, Ward Educational Fund and a
renowned cancer organization in the US.
