She called her collection “Tale of the Unexpected”, when
Shehla Khan, for her label “Shehlaa”, introduced a bold fairy tale fashion
fantasy at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013. Drawing inspirations from
the many fairy tales she had adored in the past, the collection was a romantic
melangé of Indian and Western creations. While the silhouettes were bold and
daring there was an element of structure in the very feminine, graceful, regal
outfits. The lineup of very stylish garments had the mix of varied textures
along with the intricate artistic embroidery in classic black and gold, which
gave an enduring, dreamy appeal to the collection.
Partial to tulle, Shehla added brocade, satin, lace and silk
to complete the fragile fabric story. High voltage glamour came in the form of
the opening black/red jumpsuit with bead work, followed by a tantalizing nude
silk baby-doll covered with black net splashed with delicious strawberry motifs
while 3D flowers added glitz to the red net mini.
Cutwork gave the silver embroidered skirt and tiny choli an
ornate beauty. The beaded tasseled slim gown, will-power ivory midi sheath and
net trail upped the style quotient. Beaded fringes appeared in layers and tiers
for lehengas, gowns and minis, while sexy shorts or cigarette pants played hide
and seek under tulle skirts. The final
lehengas worn with micro cholis were undoubtedly a very sensuous part of the
show.
Stopping the presentation was the very gorgeous Jacqueline
Fernandez, star of “Murder 2” who looked stunning in a pale pink net lehenga
with multi coloured painted floral bouquets and lace corset.
For Red Carpet glamour that will turn the wearer into the
Belle of the Ball, Shehla Khan’s “Tale of the Unexpected” had just the right
fashion elements.
