Bringing to the forefront of fashion, the ancient soul and
inspiration of traditional craftsmanship, the ‘Vrisa’ label by Rahul and Shikha
Mangal presented “Charkha” at Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013. It was a
collection that revealed the beauty and hand crafted techniques of garment
tailoring that had long been forgotten.
With old techniques blending seamlessly with contemporary
styling, the designer duo used natural fabrics like cotton, silk, linen and
turned them into utterly wearable creations that will appeal to the global
buyers.
It was a line of magnificent kalidaar kurtas, wide circular
skirts, long angarkhas which layered over the kurtas for a swirling fluid
collection. The dress with bolero and lehengas with side slit kurtas were
initially in shades of white, beige and ecru, which later moved to grey/black
for Jodhpuri pants, short tops, kurtas and lehengas. The intricate
embellishments and fabulous craft of India was the focal point of the garments.
For creations that present fashion and style backed by
socially responsible movements, the “Charka” collection by Rahul and Shikha
Mangal had a lot of soul and emotion.
