Jacqueline Fernandez sizzles the ramp for Tarun Tahiliani at Lakme Fahion Week

Bollywood's undisputed fashion diva and beautiful Jacqueline Fernandez walked the ramp for designer Tarun Tahiliani to end the first day of ongoing Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. The lovely actress  looked sensational in a shaded orange /pink /red net kalidaar kurta dupatta and decked in a magnificent Raani Haar Matha Pati and earrings.

Clumps of white organza leaves hung from the ceiling to create an ethereal atmosphere for the show. White strands zigzagged on the edge of the ramp to add to the mystical mood of the evening.
The show opened with a black lean gown followed by bolero with embroidered draped dhoti pants. Soon it was a black and white serenade of kurtas, saris with knitted lace gilets, drawstring kaftan, dhoti sari, lehenga cholis with net dupattas and kalidaar embellished kurtas.

Tarun Tahiliani opened a Pandora’s Box of delicious relaxed ready-to- wear resort fashion in sorbet colours with myriad permutations and combinations involving stylish separates. Tarun’s adventurous creativity travelled from European chintz to Bidri work, jamavaar and abstract art. Summer cottons and sushi voiles came alive with thread and chikan work. Ombré added shades to chiffon saris while kimkhab kurtas were a vision in sheer silk.

Colours caused a riot on the ramp, as indigo, mustard, fuchsia turned into sunset hues while the sombre black, white, ivory and beige kept the tones under control.

Paisleys flowed all over kaftans, while colourful vibrant borders aimed for a fashionable contrast. Asymmetry, panels and layers added to the fashionable character of the clothes. Skirts with cowled hemlines, layered cape one-shoulder kurtas and T-shirts were teamed with skirts or contrasted with pencil skirts and lehengas while the surprising trompe-l’oeil effect appeared on eye-catching panels. Sheer backs of cholis and kurtas were enticingly embroidered to create fashion magic.

Introducing “Le Kurta Nouveau”, Tarun attached a dupatta for more stylish comfort. This fashion direction was seen in floral, abstract, draped, asymmetrical, cut-out, lace work or with high slits - enough choices to boggle the mind.

Tarun also gave pride of place in the collection to the humble gilet raising its fashion quotient by teaming it with Bidri pants, dhoti sari or kurta. Visually striking was the versatile lamé cutwork gilet or as a kasab version in filigree matched with a fiery orange dhoti sari.

Tarun also launched his Indian handloom saris and dupattas woven in traditional techniques to revive the beauty of the heritage weaves.

Men’s wear was stylishly elegant with just the right touches of tonal work for cross over bundi wide salwars with stately sherwanis.

The gorgeous jewels by Reliance Jewels complemented the creations perfectly as diamond and ruby necklaces, danglers; chokers, collars, pearl edged neckpieces, cuffs and kundan collars dazzled the audience.

Reliance Jewels and Tarun Tahiliani created a visual feast for the eyes with all the glitter, glamour and timeless fashion which was a memorable end to Day One at Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2014.
