On Women's Day, The Gallery on
MG, a luxury retail destination in the capital hosted a celebration of
photography and fashion as a showcase of the great strides made for the cause
of women. ‘Durga’-by Sharmistha Dutta, an experienced photographer, a
proficient designer and art director, highlighted the emergence of women in
India while interestingly comparing her subjects with the deity Durga – A
dynamic power house to overcome the evils of the rural society of India.
Speaking about her exhibition, Sharmistha said, "My objective is to create
awareness about the violence faced by the widows of India. I believe it’s not
just the people living in rural India, who treat their widows and women badly,
but it’s a practice that is also shockingly prevalent amongst the educated
people living in the big cities. It’s a mindset that we need to fight and
change."
The day was also marked with the stylish Mahima Chaudhary's
presence at the unveiling of Preeti Ghai's new spring summer collection. .
Mahima was seen appreciating the expansive collection and indulged in some
shopping for herself “I would love to
come back for shopping for a wedding in my family.”
A host of art and fashion connoisseurs from around the city
were seen at the event including Dr Bindeshwar pathak, Actress Mahima
Chaudhary, Neera Sareen , Varija Bajaj, Vandy Mehra,Farheen Prabhakar to name a
few.
