Bombay Bioscope by Nida Mahmood creates magic at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week SS 2014

Celebrated designer Nida Mahmood, known for her elegant style presented her exclusive collection entitled ‘Bombay Bioscope’ on the opening day of Wills Lifestyle fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014, which added further glitter and glamour to the show.

Nida’s collection was an attempt to narrate another new visual story through a tricam of three distinct styles Line Art wire-framing Constellations, 3 Dimensional Triangulations and Angular Crystallized Forms come together.

Her collection was a manifestation of the larger-than-life grandeur of Indian cinema. Primarily a digitally designed collection, it spanned within 3 major design languages essentially revolving around line art. Using line art as flat wireframe constellation patterns to 3- dimensionalising into triangulated crystalized forms to random angular shape formations, the collections were an interesting mirror imaging of intensely intricate designs.

Embroideries in the collection were essentially textural lending delicacy to the light weight fabrics that have been used extensively.

Use of Colors in her collections ranged from dull greys to murky greens to a happy palette of various shades of fuchsia, lime green, turquoise and inky blues, to shades of purple, a dash of red and several shades of yellow and neutral flesh tones.

The major silhouettes were variations of the mullet in shirts, skirts and dresses. Shoulders are prominent in the collection. Be it in terms of sharp shoulders in summer jackets or as textural embroidery highlighting the shoulder.

Moreover, plenty of breezy summer silhouettes were seen in the collection. A lot of tucks and pleats and subtle dart manipulations add to the stylization of the collection. Collars have been given importance.
Fabrics used range from handlooms from various parts of India, to several kinds of fine count power loom cottons and rayon, light weight silks and georgettes and some lycra based fabrics.
